Foundation & Formation
The Sunni Jamiatul Ulama was established in 1978
through the grace of Allahu Subhaanahu Wa Taala by
a band of dedicated Aalims and well wishes in the
community.
The aims and objectives of these founder members
, were very noble and far reaching. The fact that
the body is still in existence 25 years later bears
testimony to this.
These members realized that there was an urgent need
to see to the needs of the community both on a religious
and social and economic level. The benefits derived
thereof have been tremendous . The needs of the community
were being fulfilled at all levels.
Contentious religious issues were being resolved
by the highly qualified and respected ulemas that
have formed the backbone of this organization . The
vision that has been projected by the founder members
have begun to bear fruit.
The S.J.U has become a household name not only locally
but nationally as well. Insha Allah this organization
will continue to grow and the ummah will continue
to benefit .
Presently the founder members , many of whom are
still with us and together with volunteers from the
community continue to guide this organization in these
troubled times.
Funding
The S.J.U depends solely on the generosity of the
general public. For the S.J.U to function smoothly
we need an amount of at least R 15 000 per month to
manage the running expenses for the month.
This has been one of our major stumbling blocks in
that funding has not been easy to come by. Many a
time the S.J.U has not been up to date with payments
with regard to rent ,salaries and telephone etc.
Volunteers go from organization to organization so
that the S.J.U can meet their monthly expenditure.
We appeal to you through the grace of Almighty Allah
to consider us positively with regard to finance and
funding .
It is also through the generosity of the community
that we as unit can function effectively.
An effective organization can only benefit the Ummah
and a strong Ummah is the very foundation upon which
Islam Stands.
Staffing
The S.J.U is made up of three paid staff and the
other members work on a voluntary basis. Without the
assistance of our staff the S.J.U will not be able
to function smoothly.
